Business Hiring In South Florida On The Rise

South Florida employers say they’re stepping up hiring, prompted by a more optimistic outlook and increasing sales. The higher confidence level is reflected in Florida’s lower unemployment rate, which has fallen for four straight months. Unemployment dipped to 9.9 percent in December – under 10 percent for the first time in 2-1/2 years. Unemployment also has declined in South Florida, and online job postings have increased. January job postings online rose by 2,267 jobs, or 17.8 percent from a year ago, in Palm Beach County, and by 1,584, or 10 percent, in Broward County, according to The Conference Board, a global research firm. Both big and small companies in South Florida have jobs to fill.  Some say they’re hiring because of new customers and increased sales. In a mid-December survey of Florida’s chief executives, 39 percent said they plan to increase hiring this quarter, with 41 percent pointing to an improving economy. And 18 percent say they expect that to be a long-term trend, not a blip, according to a late-December survey by CEO group Vistage. [Read this article]
